JCVD Trailer
This movie is such a “Sleeper”. It is so unfortunate it didn’t get a wider release. Perhaps Jean-Claude Van Damme’s past roles/history leaves most with a bad taste. However this film is very good. Maybe his best since “Lionheart”. This film is a “Art imitating Life” scenario. You follow J.C.V.D as his life is in shambles. He can’t find a role to save his life. He is in serious debt. Caught in a battle of custody with his ex-wife. He travels back to his hometown to seek refuge and peace! But upon arriving in town he finds himself in a much more life threatening situation! I recommend this film. It provides a more human side to Jean-Claude. So, I give this a high kick to the teeth F-YA!

The Missing Person Trailer

Knowing this film was an official selection into the 2009 Sundance film fest. I thought this would be good. Then when I was asked to screen and review it. I was hoping it would be good. But, unfortunately it was just O.K. The plot was good. A private investigator (Michael Shannon) hired to track down a man. Who was presumed dead following the collapse of the World Trade Center. Sounds like this could go in amazing directions. But, No! Trying to capture the film noir of such great crime movies. It fell a bit short. I say wait till it is on “The Sundance Channel”. I give a WTF rating.

Chopper Trailer

This is by far one of my favorite films! Based upon Marc “Chopper” Read’s autobiographical book “From the inside”. This tale of a gangster/jailhouse legend turned Police “street cleaner”. Chopper (Eric Bana) will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Even if that means cutting off his own ears. Fuck Van Gogh! This movie will grab you from the opening moments. Though at times it may be a bit graphic for some. It is necessary to illustrate the shear craziness of the character. The real Marc Read aka “chopper” has gone on to sell millions of books. And has now become some sort of “Rock Star” in Australia. You have to see this film. Remember this is based upon a autobiographical book. Truth can be stranger than fiction. I give this a ear shattering F-YA!!!!!

Love Happens

love happens
Love Happens Trailer
Love happens is about a widower whose book about coping with loss turns him into a best-selling self-help guru. On a business trip to Seattle, he falls for a woman who attends one of his seminars, only to learn that he hasn’t yet truly confronted his wife’s passing. I like the actors in this film, but this a romantic comedy without enough comedy. I was expecting more from the story line but I was ultimately left with the feeling that I could take or leave this film.
I give this movie a WTF

All About Steve

All About Steve Trailer

Convinced that a CCN cameraman (Bradley Cooper) is her true love, an eccentric crossword puzzler (Sandra Bullock) trails him as he travels all over the country, hoping to convince him that they belong together. Bradley Cooper’s paranoia towards Sandra Bullock because he thinks that she is a stalker is actually pretty funny and Sandra Bullock plays her Character well. I wasn’t expecting much out of this film and it was pretty entertaining. I liked it but it is definitely a rental…

I give it a WTF.

When it comes to really F-ing with your head. This movie will do it! The visual torment you get watching it in Black&White is enough to give you chills. But, you add in the tension and that moment of silence before the light! And you may lose it! This film follows a young man as he intercepts instructions meant for someone else. As you follow Sebastian(George Babluani) on his maze-like directions. You can’t help to wonder what he got himself into. Upon reaching his destination. Sebastian realizes he is now in a situation he may never live to tell about. Forced to play in a game of Russian roulette as rich socialites bet on their shooter. With each hammer strike of the revolver. You are left trembling. I highly recommend this movie. I give this a massive F-YA!!!!!

Taking Woodstock

Taking Woodstock trailer

Actual Woodstock footage

When I think of Woodstock. The first thing that enters my mind is music. The feeling I get hearing Jimi Hendrix belt out “The Star spangled banner” on his Strat. Or the cautious reminder not to take the “Brown Acid”. Even though I was mere thought in my Father’s mind at the time. Somehow I feel very familiar to Woodstock. Although this film puts no focus on the music. You still hear it! Ang Lee’s storytelling is spot on. The film reveals what took place behind the music. Exposing you to the trials and tribulations of what was to be know as Woodstock. Each character is layered with different backgrounds. Allowing you to feel the true power this 3 day peace and music festival brought to their lives! After having watched this film. I have a greater appreciation for what took place! I highly recommend this movie. Especially if you are a fan of that generation. I will be giving this a F-Ya! With a peace sign!

Extract

Extract Trailer
From the creator of “Office space” comes this mildly entertaining film. Perhaps I was hoping to relive the feeling I got watching “Office space”. But, Unfortunately it fell a little shy. Mike Judge’s direction was a bit off. However the cast of characters made up for it. Joel(Jason Bateman) owns a small extract producing plant. Frustrated with his marriage and the possibilty of selling his company. Joel finds himself lusting after Cindy(Mila Kunis). A recently hired employee. Cindy’s only intention is to weasel her way into a settlement. A settlement in which Step(Clifton Collins Jr.) is to receive for a less than glamorous accident. With the Introduction of Dean(Ben Affleck) this movie picks up. This burned out, “Kramer-esque” character brings such chaos and humor to this film. That for his performance alone. I recommend checking it out. I will not reveal more of the plot. But, will give it a warm F-YA. Suggest waiting till DVD!

District 9

District 9 Trailer

If you are expecting an action packed Alien invasion movie than you will be disappointed, but if you are in the mood for an emotional journey and a well done film than this is the movie for you.  This film definitely has some hidden messages; it shows the evil that humans are capable of when they are faced with the fear of the unknown.  The Aliens are portrayed as creatures with feelings who have found themselves stuck in an unfriendly world and are trying desperately to get back home. I thought it was done very well.

Julie & Julia

Julie & Julia

I really enjoyed watching this film.  Amy Adam’s character is a great depiction of the average 30 something stuck in a dead end job, who just wants to find some meaning in her drab existence. The transition of modern day to the 50’s was done very well; you become truly engrossed in both of the lead characters stories and both characters are relatable. Amy Adam’s does not get out shined in this film, which is a tough feet when your co-star is the magnificent Meryl Streep.
