Going the distance trailer

In another give, take movie weekend. We went to see this film. Although I wasn’t sure what to expect based upon the commercials. I knew it wasn’t going to be great. It looked like the director was trying to film it much like “500 days of Summer”. Which in my opinion was great. But, unfortunately he failed.

The film takes place in New York and San Francisco Bay Area. Garrett (Justin Long) a non-committal relationship junkie. Just broke up with the latest gal. When at a bar to drown his sorrows one more time. He meets Erin (Drew Barrymore). They hit it off and head back to his place. What takes place is your typical romantic comedy cliche’. They fall in love. But, Erin has to go back to Stanford to get her graduate degree. Leaving them in a long distance relationship. Several flights back and forth and some comedy relief from Dan (Charlie Day). Garrett’s roommate. The film follows your typical storyline.

Two things I got from this film. Charlie Day (It’s always sunny in Philadelphia) is comedy gold. And Drew Barrymore is not looking so good these days. I say wait for cable.

Everybody’s Fine Trailer
Well tis’ the season for holiday movies. So, break out the lights and ornaments. Perhaps some tissue for this film.

A remake of a 1990 Italian film. This film follows a recent widower. Frank Goode (Robert DeNiro) lost his wife 5 months ago. Now as the holiday season approaches. Frank sets out against his doctors orders to see his children. Frank’s four children are spread out through the United States. Frank’s fear of flying forces him to travel by buses and trains.

Upon arriving at his first stop. Frank finds his youngest son isn’t home. So, Frank travels on. This traveling takes place through out the film. And at each destination some excuse is found by Frank’s children not to hang out.

There are layers to this film which will give away more than I care to. The all star cast of Sam Rockwell, Kate Beckinsale and Drew Barrymore can’t save this film. Not saying the film is bad. Saying it could have been better. The film will bring emotions out of you. But, you have to wait the entire movie to feel anything. For this being a “Christmas” film. It was far from anything of the sort.

Whip It
Whip It Trailer
Ellen Page plays a girl who is bored with her small town, beauty pageant life and everything changes for her the day she finds a flier for roller derby. This film had an awesome cast and everyone did a really great job but it came up little bit short of my expectations. Drew Barrymore is a good actress, but I think this film would have been better with a different director. The music selection was not great and the editing could have been better. There is a really cool underwater scene and I liked the story line. Overall, I did like this film and it is worth seeing in the theatre, so I will give it an F-YA.
